Models: ATC1 and ATC1R
Pipe Clamp K-type Thermocouple
Max: 257ºF (125°C)
OPERATOR’S MANUAL
Description
The ATC1 and ATC1R, K-type, pipe clamp ther-
mocouples, can be used to take temperatures of
pipes or any other cylindrical surface within their jaw
range. Using a pipe clamp thermocouple greatly
facilitates taking superheat or subcooling measure-
ments. Use the ATC1 for most A/C units and the
ATC1R for most residential and commercial refrig-
eration appliances. Both models can be used with
any thermometer accepting a K-type thermocouple.
Advantages
The sensor is virtually isolated from ambient con-
ditions, allowing the thermocouple to read the true
pipe temperature for as long as it is attached.
The sensor’s large surface area and increased
clamping force help the sensor reach the correct
temperature within 30 seconds.
Because the jaw is designed for HVAC/R, its
clamping ability lets you measure temperatures of
pipes that are fixed, at any angle, to walls or other
surfaces.
Operation
Plug the ATC1 or ATC1R into any thermometer
accepting a K-type thermocouple and adjust the
thermometer to the appropriate settings. Simply
clamp the thermocouple to a pipe and take the
measurement when the reading stabilizes.
Field calibration
Due to variances in the thermocouple wire and
other parts of the system, a field calibration should
be conducted before use. Field calibration typically
gives +/- 1ºF (0.5°C) overall accuracy. Refer to the
thermometer’s operating manual for calibration
instructions.
Specifications
ATC1 jaw range: 3/8” to 1 3/8” pipe diameter (OD)
ATC1R jaw range: 1/8” to 3/4” pipe diameter (OD)
Accuracy: +/- 4ºF (2°C) ; ±1°F (0.5°C) after field
calibration, 32 to 176ºF (0 to 80°C)
Temperature range: -50 to 257ºF (-46 to 125°C)
Thermocouple conductors: K-type nickel
chromium/nickel aluminum.
Probe insulation and clamp material: While cal-
ibration and atmosphere will affect maximum
useful temperature in applications, the wire insu-
lation and clamp material are designed to with-
stand a maximum continuous use at 257°F
(125°C).
Plug: K-type thermocouple male mini plug.
Typical stabilization time: less than 30 seconds.
Warranty
The ATC1 and ATC1R, K-type, clamp-on thermo-
couples are warranted against manufacturer’s
defects for one year. This warranty does not apply
to defects resulting from abuse, neglect, accident,
unauthorized repair, alteration, or unreasonable use
of the instrument. Any implied warranty arising out
of the sale of Fieldpiece's products including but not
limited to implied warranties of merchantability, and
fitness for purpose, are limited to the above.
Fieldpiece shall not be liable for incidental or conse-
quential damages.
Service
Return any defective ATC1 or ATC1R to
Fieldpiece for warranty service along with proof of
purchase. Contact Fieldpiece for out of warranty
repair charges.
